Sam is a born and raised Vermonter who has been working at a large box retailer for the past 10 years. She worked her way up the ranks to management and gained many useful skills that will carry with her in her new career as a real estate agent.

Sam's positive attitude, excellent customer service and organizational skills have made her successful in her career thus far, however she was looking for a change. Due to her love of HGTV home remodeling shows and enjoyment from working with people, Sam decided that a career in real estate would be the perfect next step in her journey.

Sam recently went through the home buying process herself and was fascinated by the moving parts involved and all the work that goes into a real estate transaction. She understands how being on the other side feels and can give you the guidance and confidence needed to navigate this large investment purchase.

When Sam isn't selling real estate, you will catch her walking and exploring trails, enjoying the lake and hosting girls night for her closest friends. She loves spending time outdoors but she can't wait to come home to her cats and snuggle on the couch. Sam also enjoys doing renovations to her own home and creating equity through finishing touches and design.

Deborah Unica recently became a licensed realtor with CBIR. Deborah has been a resident of the Islands for 22 years. Her daughter grew up attending the Champlain Islands Parent Child Center and Folsom school. Deborah spent many years helping Vermont families plan for college and more recently served as director in a medical setting. She is looking forward to using her experience in planning, marketing, relationship building, and negotiation to assist buyers and sellers through the real estate transaction process.

Paul has enjoyed living in the Green Mountain State since 2011, when he relocated from his native state of Connecticut for a new career opportunity. He is a seasoned professional with many years’ experience in sales, customer service, and relationship development. Throughout his career both in corporate and non-profit settings, Paul has always believed that timely responsiveness to client inquiries and consistent follow through on commitments are two key elements that drive customer satisfaction. In the business of transacting real estate, both timely responsiveness and following through on commitments are key when striving for a successful outcome!

Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. He worked in the electrical industry for nearly twenty years with both General Electric and Square D Companies. During that time, several job transfers around the country required the sale and purchase of a number of homes. As a result, Paul understands and appreciates the purchase and sales process, particularly by recognizing that the sale or purchase of a home is often the biggest transaction of one's life! 

In 2008, Paul earned a Masters of Divinity from the General Theological Seminary, New York City, and has served in several capacities within The Episcopal Church USA. Paul is a believer in giving back to the community and dedicates some of his time to serving on a Professional Advisory Team at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington while also serving on the Board of Trustees for the Brookhaven Treatment and Learning Center, Chelsea, VT. Paul enjoys staying physically active and working outdoors. He is the proud father of two adult sons and currently resides in South Burlington.

"Alex LaVigne has spent his entire life living in beautiful Vermont. His familiarity with the area
and many local connections help him provide his clients with extensive information and superior
customer service. Being from Vermont, Alex’s love for the area and all it has to offer is apparent.
Currently, Alex lives in Colchester, with his wife, two sons, and 100 pound fur-baby. He enjoys
boating, snowboarding, hiking, and coaching his boys tee ball team.
Real estate has run in his family for many years, from a young age Alex remembers admiring
and helping his grandfather who owned many rental properties. Alex purchased his first rental
property at the age of 21 in Burlington, and since has remodeled houses and more recently
went through the homebuilding process for his family's current home.

"Joy Gess has lived in the beautiful Champlain Islands since 2013. She brings many years of experience in Real Estate and it’s supporting fields. Joy received her Vermont Real Estate License in 2015 and she is an Accredited Buyer’s Representative. She had a Real Estate License in Connecticut before moving to South Hero full time.

Joy spent over 25 years in the financial services industry managing mortgage teams for Citibank. Joy was a team member in the development of mortgage products and the training of representatives for 200 branches. As a Vice President and Branch Manager at CitiTrust she oversaw the origination and processing of mortgages for her customers.

Originally from Fairfield Connecticut, Joy has first hand experience in the buying and selling process. She and her family have bought and sold too many houses to count during their personal and corporate moves that took them to the west coast and southern Florida. During that time, she experienced many real estate scenarios that many agents don’t get to. This broad background serves her clients well!

Joy earned her BS in Sociology with a minor in Biology from Sacred Heart University. She also holds an MS from the Milano School of International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy at the New School with a concentration in Organizational Development.

Joy lives in South Hero with her husband Rob where they enjoy skiing, biking, tennis and bocce. In her spare time Joy is an avid photographer and has shown her work in local exhibits. She believes in community involvement and currently volunteers as a Tour Guide at Shelburne Farms and the various programs at Camp TaKumTa."
